St. Paul Convent Phesama was started in the year 1981 at the request of the, then, Bishop of Kohima Rt. Rev. Abraham Elanjimattathil and the Jesuit Provincial of Karnataka Province. This was the first house in the state of Nagaland. It is situated 10kms away from Kohima, the capital of Nagaland and the diocesan headquarters of the diocese of Kohima. The people of the area belong to Angami Tribe and majority are Christians belong to various denominations like Catholics, Baptists, Revivals, Pentecost's and a few  pagans and Hindus. The people of area are farmers and they are hard working. Mostly they are depending on the Jhum cultivation. The convent was opened on 15th July 1981. The first members of the community were Sr.Cecilia Sr.Anita Palakal, and Sr.Julie. The sisters in the center are engaged in the field of education, catechetical, evangelization and family Apostolate. One sister is in charge of the teacher education center which is run by the Jesuit Priests and the others are engaged in teaching in the high School run by the Jesuits.
